Vahan Mardirossian

Pianist and conductor

For the 2016-2017 season Vahan Mardirossian will make his debut with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra with whom he will perform Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Osaka for the 2016 Christmas concert.

During the 2014-2016 seasons Vahan Mardirossian conducted the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Real Orquesta Sinfonica de Sevilla, Sudwestfalen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bulgarian National Orchestra.

In February 2015 he again conducted the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Vahan Mardirossian is the Principal Conductor of the Orchestra of Caen and the Musical Director of the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia (NCOA).

Vahan Mardirossian began his career as a conductor at the age of 15. He was appointed Principal Conductor and Musical Director of the Youth Chamber Orchestra of the Armenian Cultural Centre.

Since then he has conducted the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National des Pays de Loire, Tokyo Mozart Players, the "Amalgames" Orchestra (made up of the best elements of the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and the SWR Baden-Baden-Freiburg Symphony Orchestra), the Douai Orchestra, the Czech Soloists, the Lebanon Philharmonic Orchestra, the Caen Orchestra, the Cannes Orchestra, the Toulon Opera Orchestra, the Novosibirsk Chamber Orchestra, the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia.

His repertoire covers a wide range from the baroque period to the present day (Tanguy, Saariaho, Rautavaara, Dutilleux, Rihm, Kagel, Crumb, Ligeti, Mulsant, Canat de Chizy...)

In May 2013 Vahan Mardirossian conducted the French premiere of Tigranyan's opera "Anouche" at the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers.

With his two orchestras, Vahan Mardirossian has recorded Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto (Stéphanie-Marie Degand, Orchestre de Caen) and Florentine Mulsant's 1st Symphony for Strings (NCOA).

A renowned pianist, Vahan Mardirossian has been combining his two passions by conducting concertos (Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Shostakovich...). He also plays under the direction of great conductors such as Kurt Mazur, Paavo Jarvi, Yutaka Sado, John Axelrod, Yuri Ahronovith... It was his meeting with Kurt Masur that marked a definitive turning point in Vahan Mardirossian's career. He was invited by the Maestro to the conducting seminar in New York where he conducted the Manhattan School Orchestra among the laureates.

Following this, in 2005 Vahan Mardirossian created the chamber orchestra "Maestria" with which he performed in France including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse.
